Etching: Lost In The 80's

This is a photoetching that was greatly manipulated to look like it didn't start as a photograph. Just about everything I could think of was put into it. There's deep etch, there's tape across the photo, burnishing of the light areas, etc. The original image was of a window at the old Monkey's Retreat (SohoZat) where they were selling wild 80's clothes with a mannequin with a mask. The detail shows a lot of variety of treatments. The frozen look of the mannequin made me think of how the 1980's was a frozen decade for young people. Jobs were few and low pay, rent was going up, but people would just wear wilder and wilder clothes

Etching: Coffeeshop Money

This is an etching done on two copperplates. The girl is done on a separate copperplate then cut-out and pasted on the background using the press. Different colors are brought in for the lips and eyes. The netting of the hat is from real netting that was pressed into the asphaltum then the acid etches the image.
